HAPPY HALLOWEEN

For the first time ever, I participated in a haunted house. I felt kinda bad thinking I made little kiddies pee their pants in fright.

Day-z dressed as a one-eyed monster, giving her two eyes!
Alice in Candy Land…the two of us had candy duty. I'm pretty sure Halloween is Day-z's new favorite holiday. Kids coming to door and petting her as they get their candy…can't get any better than that for this monster pooch.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

THE GREAT PUMPKIN

There are three things that I've learned never discuss with people:
religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin.

We love Halloween family fun.

SITTING

I'm not sure if you can say I am babysitting...
They are dog-sitting...

Or if the dog is literally sitting on the baby.

But I do know we have so much fun.

TRENDY MATERNITY CLOTHES...GIVEAWAY

Did you know that more babies are born in the month of August than any other month? I'm one of them. (That's all we need to say on the subject of my parents and babies. Yuck.)
Those cold October and November months are among us. In honor of that, I want to host a giveaway.
Whenever I attend a baby shower for a friend, I try to bring 2 presents. One is for the expected baby and the other for the mother. After all, she is the one doing most of the work for 9 months to get the baby here.

My new go-to place for mommy's little surprise is PinkBlush Maternity. Now I know maternity clothing might not sound like a cute present for those who are pregnant because you might not be feeling cute. But you can find adorable AND trendy maternity clothes at this site. No joke.

I have personally seen and touched some of the clothing they sell and it is attractive, fashionable, and well-made. Their site is very easy to navigate through and their customer service is tip-top (two things that are very important to me).

For the giveaway, the nice people at PinkBlush have given me a $25 gift certificate to their website. This can be used on you or a friend who might need some new maternity clothes.
Good luck.

TOMTOBERFEST 2013

I have a friend named Tom. He likes to shoot guns. It's October.
Put all of those things together
(along with hot chocolate and donuts thanks to Tom's wife Lesli)
and what do you get?

Tomtoberfest.

3 rounds of 25 shots each

All good events end with a trophy ceremony.
Well, at least this one does.
Guess who won 1st place in the women's* category...
 Yes, it was yours truly.
*No need to mention I was the only woman shooting.

NEVER LIE TO MATT NATHANSON

Three of my friends and I were able to attend a super small mini concert by Matt Nathanson thanks to the Coca-Cola Lounge and My99.5 Radio.
For some reason, as we walked up for the photo, I didn't know what to say so told him it was my birthday. Of course he asked me what my sign is if I'm born in this month.
I quickly changed the subject and then he asked again. I blurted out the first one I could think of....Virgo. Not the correct sign for October.
I then turned around and shook his hand telling him it's not really my birthday. I told him I'm a Leo.

BREW HA HA 5K

I used to be a good runner. It has been a long time.
My friend Jenny invited me to run the 1st annual Witch's Brew Ha Ha 5k at Gardner Village. I've never visited Gardner Village before, but they apparently have super popular Witch themed festivities around Halloween time.
So we donned our witchy gear, grabbed our brooms, and ran.
It was spookily fun. And we didn't die. I think I need to start running again.

MUSEUM DAY LIVE!

Today is free museum day! So I signed up for free tickets to The Leonardo.
Right now, they have a Spooky Science exhibit that is frighteningly fun.

Pack up the kiddies and go see it. The Leonardo has fun for both little and BIG kids.

In the spirit of Smithsonian Museums, who offer free admission everyday, Museum Day Live! is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket... for free.

The SARATOV APPROACH

The incredible true story of two LDS missionaries who were abducted, ransomed, and delivered in Saratov, Russia nearly 15 years ago. See it in Utah theaters starting OCT 9th!

Or you can go to the Jordan Commons Megaplex theater in Sandy on October 5th for a special screening with a Q&A with the actual missionaries from the film (and all you can eat popcorn and soda).
Three of my girl friends and I were able to attend a special screening of this film. It was intense.

I just want to know why I didn't hear about this story when it happened in 1998. It seems like a big story. Maybe I was a a busy teenager who didn't listen to the news.

Like them on Facebook to see a list of theaters where it will be playing:

9/11 Artifact in Utah

There are eleven 9,000 lb. pieces of the concrete that was once part of the World Trade Center, and 1 of them arrived in Utah on Friday. It was part of and underground wall that sat under the Twin Towers for 45 years. It has made the trip here thanks to Raette Belcher who is the Executive Director of Utah Fallen Warriors Memorial. The piece has a large price tag of $185,000, of which $35,000 has already been paid. I was able to see the piece today at the Rice Eccles Stadium parking lot before it starts a 20-city tour to earn the remaining $150,000 balance. After the tour, it will stop at it's permanent position in the Fort Douglas Army Museum's Utah Fallen Warriors Memorial.
There was a flag raising ceremony along with live entertainment.

I poster with the names of Utah soldiers who have fallen.

You can walk up to, touch, and take photos with the wall.
There were cookies from the crane service that was there helping out. Also for the young ones, there was a military tank and jeep to climb around.
If you are in Utah and want to see this piece on tour you can check out the schedule here.
There are stops in: Logan, St. George, Cedar City, Richfield, Mt. Pleasant, Park City, camp Williams, West Valley, Lehi, Blanding, Moab, Price, Vernal, Provo, Sandy, and Tooele.

WOMENS PIRATE COSTUME

In celebration for Talk Like a Pirate Day, Krispy Kreme is giving out free doughnuts.
If you show up and talk like a pirate, you get a free doughnut.
Dress like a pirate, and get a free glazed dozen.

Did I participate? Ye better believe it, Matey.
I grabbed my Sea dog
and swashbucket crew and we yo ho hoed!
*Me thinks it was mighty nice of the Krispy Kreme landlubbers to grab a treat off the conveyor belt before it went under the wonderful glaze stream for my pirate pooch.

As you can see, we all had at least 3 of the required elements in order to score the glazed treasure, but our costumes were still lacking a little bit.
So, in order to be ready for next year, and to make sure they won't be stingy with thar donuts, I ordered the perfect gear.
Thar she blows! This will be me standing in line next year on Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Where did I find this and other great Women's Pirate Costume? This site has Halloween costumes, accessories, and party supplies for adults, kids, and even pets. Obviously, you can find great Halloween costumes on the site, but don't overlook that the store also carries creative items for every occasion from birthday to St. Patrick's Day parties including decorations.
Same-day shipping is offered on most items along with a quick and easy return policy. If you really know me, you know that I am big on good customer service and I promise this site offers great customer service, prices, and online convenience through an easy search tab for all of your costume shopping needs.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS STINKY

I have tried to get my dog to swim in so many nice, clean, bodies of water.
Yesterday, she ran into Utah Lake with no coercing of any kind and played for an hour.
Probably because it the dirtiest water playground we could possibly find.

At least, I now know she isn't afraid of water.

Bless her stink loving, dirty, little heart.

FREE DAY AT THE AQUARIUM

Today is free aquarium day at The Living Planet Aquarium because it is the last operating day until the new location opens.
The new Aquarium, which is set to open December 2013, is supposed to take visitors from the Utah deserts and mountains, to rain forest habitats, to the planet's vast oceans.
It was worth the trip to see how far the place has come since it started in the tiny old grocery store building.
It was almost NOT worth the trip thanks to the bossy moms with strollers, big purses, 8 kids, and the idea that they are the only people visiting the place.
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE...do you not go out in public very often?!

**I went without any kids in hands and I kinda felt like Cam in the Modern Family episode when he said, "I haven't been judged by this many people since I forgot my canvas bags at Whole Foods."
